No. 5 Panthers Keep Rolling

 

            Prior to last week’s game at Pekin, New London’s defense had been allowing just 17 points per game to its opponents. Following its game at Pekin, that number became inflated to 27.

            The Panthers scored three times New London’s previous average scoring defense on Friday, and came away with a dominant 54-7 win. The win kept the fifth-ranked (Class A) Panthers unbeaten at 4-0, while New London dropped to 2-2.

            Pekin set the tone early, shutting down New London’s ‘pistol’ offense to force a punt on the Tigers’ first possession. After forcing the punt, the Panthers quickly drove the ball into New London territory with their potent ground game, led by Chase Copeland and Tanner Adam. Pekin then cashed in when quarterback Trever Northup found Keaton Winn on the right side, who then made a man miss and went 31 yards for a touchdown.
