SIGOURNEY—Senior first baseman for the Sigourney Savages softball team, Erin Dawson, has signed her letter of intent to play for the William Penn Statesmen following her final season with the Savages.

Dawson spoke on how this decision came about, “I was planning on going to Penn, and the softball coach showed interest in me last season. I just kind of went for it.”

Dawson was the starting first baseman for the SICL Champion Sigourney Savages. She had a career year last season with a batting average of 0.415 and 29 RBIs. She finished with the fourth most sacrifice bunts (4) and doubles (11) in the SICL Conference. Dawson spoke on what position she expects to play for the Statesmen with, “I will be looking to move around, be a utility player. I can play outfield or infield just not catcher. I will be flexible for her. If she wants me to play first base, I would be happy to do it.”

The Sigourney team is coming off their fourth straight SICL Conference title, and made the state tournament last year. The past two seasons they were knocked out of the playoffs by the eventual state champions in tightly contested matches. Dawson described the confidence she has gained for being a part of this prolific run with, “Just having a good team, and teammates, that build you up when you are low. I think this year we have another good chance at state, but hopefully we win it.”

“Confidence, and a good attitude. I am always a happy person, and even when I am down on myself I can bring up my teammates. Bring positivity to the team,” answered Dawson when asked about what she brings to the William Penn team.

Lastly, she spoke on her goals for the first year with the Statesmen as, “Just do my best, and try to excel. Make the team better.”
