Sigourney Raises Utility Rates

SIGOURNEY – During the April 17 meeting of the Sigourney City Council, the council approved increasing utility costs. Most utilities were increased at a rate of 10% for the coming fiscal year, with 5% increases planned for the following four years. Changes that will go into effect starting in July include:

-The monthly rate for garbage collection will go up from $11.41 to $12.55 in July, $13.18 in 2025, $13.84 in 2026, $14.53 in 2027, and $15.28 in 2028.

-The cost per discharge of privately owned dumpsters will go from $20 to $30. The cost for city-owned dumpsters will go from $25 to $35. The cost for dumpsters outside of the city will go from $37.50 to $52.50.

-The monthly cost for the first 1,000 gallons of water will go from $21.60  to $23.76, $24.95 in 2025, $26.20 in 2026, $27.51 in 2027, and $28.89 in 2028. The charge for water usage exceeding 1,000 gallons will go from $5.75 to $6 and remain at $6. The cost for the first 1,000 gallons of water outside of the city limits will go to $35.65 in July, $37.42 in 2025, $39.29 in 2026, and $41.25 in 2027. The charge for water usage exceeding 1,000 gallons will go from $8.53 to $9 and remain at $9 outside of the sewer district.

-The monthly water main replacement surcharge will go from $4.75 to $5.

-The cost for bulk water for construction companies and outside contractors will go from $35 to $47.52.

-The customer guarantee deposit rate will go from $125 across the board to $150 for homeowners and $200 for renters.

-The monthly sewer rate will go from $28.88 to $29.57 in July, $31.05 in 2025, $32.60 in 2026, $34.23 in 2027, and $39.94 in 2028. The additional cost per 1,000 gallons will go from $5.25 to $6 and remain at $6. The monthly sewer rate outside of the sewer district will go from $40.39 to $44.35 in July, $46.58 in 2025, $48.91 in 2026, $51.36 in 2027, and $53.93 in 2028. The additional cost per 1,000 gallons go from $5.59 to $6 and stay at $6 outside of the sewer district.
